JKT-BDO OCT 2012 : Day 2 - Jakarta Raya

Day 2: October 20th 2012
Mission: Tanah Abang & Around Jakarta Raya

While waiting for the last group to reach Jakarta in the evening, the group has decided to pay Pusat Grosir Tanah Abang a visit.

There are many theories of shopping in Tanah Abang including:
(Warning: Read somewhere in the net but not necessarily true)
1. Tanah Abang is the centre of distribution of clothing. hence, the price is abit lower than others including the infamous Pasar Baru in Bandung
2. Block B shops sell their goods a bit cheaper than Block A

Well, i found No 1 is not entirely true but somehow, after being lost for few times, alone, i do find No 2 is , well, live up to its reputation.
Why?
Block A: New shoplots maybe. More organised and neat
Block B: Typical shoplots in textile centres perhaps
By the way, there's a building named Metro which is also a prt of Pasar Tanah Abang.

Did i go there? Seriously, i have no idea. It is a big place.

We started the day quite early and the idea was to stay in Jakarta city for the weekends and head for Bandung on weekdays to beat the traffic.
This tip is very useful and i personally advise you guys to actually note this...
again, somewhere in the net, Jakarta dwellers will reduce to about 5M people in the weekends compared to 15M during the weekdays. Usually, the city peeps will head to out of Jakarta places for liburan.
This is also backed up by our Supir Pak Dedy.

Early traffic

Jakarta Central.Bulatan Randy (Pangalila) - according to me.
the Red lines mark the busway.
It took us about 45 minutes to reach Tanah Abang from Tebet, Jakarta Selatan.
Our minds were fixed at-kain, kain,kain- for i have plans to sell some of em back in kantor.

This is where we get off and the entrance is at SLG level.

...and was greeted by:

mau tak gila tengok kain cantek2.
tapi den tak berani [yet] nak pakai kebaya kat belakang yang penuh dengan sulaman tuh.
overall, kain yang cantek2 average harga is RM50 (RP150K). Ada jugak yang cheaper.
but this time, Sulam Timbul (From Bukit Tinggi??) was hot seller.
(TW update: habis dengan budak office je)

One of the main objectives was to but lace, and textile for Yun's wedding.
It was supposed to be cheaper here in Tanah Abang.
and i guess it was indeed. The winning point is always that they have the latest and chic and pretty designs.

aaaa..one of the ready made set on sale and surely, i grabbed one (the above to be exact). Chantek kan?

Hungry? no worries. There's a foodcourt on level 8. This one is way better than the foodcourt in Pasar Baru.
No one will actually bugs you trying to get you to order form them.
Here, as any other foodcourt, we shall order at the counter.
(actually, in Pasar Baru, there are biiiiiiiiiggggggggg reminders to the patrons to order direct at the counter to avoid others to mark-up on top of the actual food price).

well, as usual, food that can be found here are Nasi Timbel, Nasi Uduk, Ayam penyet, Sup Buntut, etc etc. For muslims, please look into the menu carefully as some kiosks maybe selling pork.

There is a shop, i think it was CFC, which has a special menu - Menu Astaga. If not mistaken it was supposed to be super spicy chickens. urrghh...i forgot to try it...heheh

At the end of the day, voila..my 45+10l backpack is full to the brim with?

here it is...

and some other stuffs not pictured here...

anyway. a reminder to all eager shoppers.
see below sample?
i thought i was getting the exact one.

naaayyyy..i got similar. without the bottom flowers..

so, next time, a reminder for me as well, check EACH AND EVERY package. i even got 2 which are stained but luckily managed to get it clean easily.

after some rest at our homestay after nearly 10 hours at Tanah Abang alone, we proceed to pick-up the last group to reach Jakarta Raya.

At Bandara, there was one peculiar man who wanted to get onto our bus.
Luckily, our group is not that huge to not notice this man.
He tried to get onboard by opening the door few times which scared some of us.
We managed to get away safely.
Nevertheless, hopefully the man will be just fine. maybe he just wanted a ride to jakarta city but sorry, u just scared all of us.

anyway, we proceeded with dinner at one of the resto - seafood i guess. When we reached, it was on last orders. Hey, did the resto here actually closed at 9pm?
hmm...anyway, i do notice that it is much easier to get food and resto in Bandung.
Before we head back to our bunk, we stopped by Monas and i am quite impressed by the view.
There were patrol cars around and according to our supir, sometimes, there are demonstrations here and also at the Bulatan Randy (ehem) as per above pictures.

hence, there were on standby in case those get worse.

Istana President

All in all, 2nd day experience do enlighten my view of liburan or weekend.
we can just hang out pretty much anywhere permitted.
It does not mean that we need to be at pay-to-use areas just to have a chat.
i wouldn't know where and what for you, but for me..
we have many parks, lakes around.
Bulatan Randy (refer above roundabout) can be accessed and people can hangout on the curb at night.
but i don't think ours are accessible.

there's always the first to everything.
why don't we give it a try (grin)

pointless ramblings..

Yes, i am on a diet. Strict? No but control? yes. What makes me jump into the diet boat? my BMI waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaayy beyond any doctor's recommendations. btw, i'm trying to be off rice but it's so hard. I am not nicknamed TONG NASIK for nothing. So, shedding the nickname isn't an easy feat, i guess. Tonite's dinner? At some malay kopitiam at KJ after swimming session in shah alam.

On another subject, it is hard to imagine left alone to prevent our loved ones from falling into the same situations (usually bad) we've been before. We can only hope for the best. Moreover, if it involves the whole family feelings and not wanting anyone to get hurt. My niece is getting married this June and whether she likes it or not, i hate her-groom -to-be for a reason. Physical attractiveness and financial status are not being questioned here but i do deteste him for a reason. It might not be fair since i've never even met him but hey, maybe i'm just being over-protective. Considering my sensitive eldest sister feelings, i have promised not to say another thing and just go woth the plan i guess. So, i'm cancelling Raya 2009 in Sabah and will go back on the June 4th or 5th for her wedding.

On a lighter note, yay, F.R.I.E.N.D.S movie is on the way. Damn, the gang told me waay later as the news actually came out in July 2008. Here's the excerpt from Dailymail:

Aniston and the gang set to return for big-screen blockbuster

The highly anticipated film production of TV series Friends has finally been given the go-ahead, MailOnline has learned.

Cast members Jennifer Aniston, Courteney Cox, Matthew Perry, Matt LeBlanc, Lisa Kudrow and David Schwimmer will reprise their roles for a big-screen adaptation 'within the next 18 months', according to insiders.

The actors have been inspired by the recent success of Sex And The City, which recently hit cinemas worldwide.

A source said: 'Jennifer, Courteney and the rest of the cast are keen to reprise their roles, under the right circumstances.

'The box office success of Sex And The City has really got their wheels spinning about how a Friends film could be just as big, if done right.

'Timing and the script are really important, but now that Courteney and Jen both have production companies, they can potentially get very involved in those decisions.'

Talk of a reunion for the loveable gang from New York's Central Perk has been bandied around Hollywood ever since the show aired its final season in 2004.

While Cox, 44, LeBlanc, 40, Perry, 39, Kudrow, 45 and Schwimmer, 41, were believed to be keen on the reunion, Aniston, 39, is believed to have dragged her heels.

Now, however, she is keen to move ahead with the project, which will be produced by Warner Bros.

The source added: 'As the biggest star of the Friends franchise, Jennifer can't help but look at what's happened with Sarah Jessica Parker and the Sex And The City film and be a little jealous.

'What's held back a Friends movie so far is that people were worried that Jennifer had simply become too famous to play Rachel again.

'But the truth is that Jennifer is finally willing to do it, and she'd love to work with that whole team of actors and producers again.

'She says she and Courteney have already talked this summer about what they want out of a Friends movie, and if deals can be made with them, everything else can fall into place rather quickly.

'It really comes down to money, and I don't think Jen has a problem with all of the Friends getting huge paydays for the movie.

'In that sense, it's Sex And The City all over again. There's no movie unless you can reunite the whole cast and keep them all happy financially.'

The Sex And The City film, which had series star Sarah Jessica Parker as a producer, is headed for a global box office total of well over $300million.

That number exceeds all pre-release expectations and insiders say US studio Warner Bros is now mining its recent library of TV hits for other projects ready for the movie treatment.

The source told MailOnline: 'Friends is at the top of the list of properties that can do the same level of business Sex And The City did.'

Since going their separate ways, the actors have stayed in the entertainment sphere, with varying success.

Aniston, who depicted lead character Rachel, has starred in a series of romantic comedies but her professional endeavours have been overshadowed by romantic upheaval.

Following her divorce from Brad Pitt in 2005, she endured a reportedly volatile relationship with actor Vince Vaughn before recently embarking on a romance with musician John Mayer.

Courteney Cox, who depicted neurotic Monica, enjoyed relative success with her TV show Dirt, where she played a ruthless tabloid media mogul.

Lisa Kudrow, who co-starred as ditzy folk singer Phoebe, continues to work in film - but mostly lower profile independent ones.

Matt Le Blanc has laid low in Hollywood since the failure of his Friends spin-off series Joey, passing on TV and film roles to focus on his home life.

David Schwimmer, aka Ross, now seems most comfortable playing the role of movie director. He recently directed hit comedy Run Fatboy Run.

Well, exciting right? (for fans laaa)

going places

I spent a good 5-mornings (1-hour each) construction these magnificio monuments. I've always like puzzles, stuffs that i could assemble like Tamiya cars, and the above. These are made of some kind of Styrofoam and paper. There are 99pcs in total for all the 5 Mini Architecture Series: World Famous 1. No tools required, easy to assemble, educational and great deco items. Many people were saying that my son should be fiddling with these, not me!!! I dont care. I like em!!

The one on the left is Burj Al-Arab, Dubai, UAE. My first monument and i didn't know i had to be gentle...heheh. Anyway, some people mistook it for MENARA TELEKOM, BANGSAR. kahkahkah...It's the world's tallest and ONLY 7 star hotel. There are some emails flying around about Agassi playing Tennison the helipad. how true is it?

The one on the right is, well, what else, Petronas Twin Tower, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Also quite easy but fixing the "top floor" was a bit tricky. It;s the wrld's tallest twin-building.

Level of patience required: 6 out of 10.
Reason: there are some small parts/floors. The holes were non-even also.

Left: Eiffel Tower of Paris, France. It was built for Paris World Exposition held in 1889 to commemerate the 100th anniversary of French Revolution.

Right: Le Torre De Pisa / The Tower of Pisa / The Leaning Tower of Pisa, Italy. It's the bell tower of he Cathedral. Construction began in August 1173 and cont (with 2 very2 long interuptions) for about 200 hundred years. The architect is still unknown.

Level of patience required: 2 out of 10.
Reason: Very2 easy to assemble.

This is not the London Bridge. Hokaaayyy!!! It's the Tower Bridge, a neighbour to the former. London Bridge used to have Tower but the modern one don't. It has stood over Thames River since 1894
Level of patience required: 8 out of 10.
Reason: there are some small parts/floors. The holes were non-even also. It's the Mini-MRR2. If u knw what i mean.
I felt i wanted to glue em together.

well, where to get those? I bought the box at a booth in front of KFC Restaurant, Carrefour, Subang Jaya at RM29.90 per box (5 monuments)

Im gonna look for the 2nd series. not even sure if they have it.

Now, where should i display all these?

disclaimer: all of the above facts ARE NOT checked at the moment of blogging. You wnat the real facts, find it yourself.

voila!!!

Today, ive finally created Yahoogrups for TW staffs. By invitations only, sorry. However, if you have resigned, u're always welcomed in the group.

Today also, i've join blogger reunited. wait, its more like a coax from Rei. whatever. I've only joined the membership because Rei is a kind friend of mine and it's his baby, i think.

Hidden Van Gogh revealed in color by scientists.

Y it doesn't suprise me.
The Vincent van Gogh's 'Patch of Grass' painting was x-rayed by US scientists and they found a women's face/figure under the paint. my, my. maybe he was broke and thus he had to re-paint his own painting. it was the Dark Ages i guess.

Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince

The new sequel to the trilogy will be aired in November 08. Im not a big fan of HP but this one kinda interesting. I did watch all the movies but no repeats. Maybe i should re-watch all the movies again.

The Lagoons of Titan: Oily Liquid Confirmed on Saturn Moon

The significance of the lake baffles me. A bigfoot footprint? or did i read it wrongly.

"The new observations affirm that Titan is one of the likeliest places to look for life in our solar system. Some astrobiologists have speculated that life could develop in the moon's hydrocarbon lakes, although it would have to be substantially different from known life on Earth, which requires liquid water."

...and what kind of life form are we expecting here babe? i think all we can find is a new strain of amoeba or lots of gas-based critters. What? Ur expecting Nessy up there? maybe there are. except it is much bigger with razor-sharp teeth. i wouldnt wanna bring down those species to our beloved earth tho. Call me outdated or science-enemy or a hippie if you will, but i thik we are too curious or too greedy for our own good.period.

3 Days - Dazzling!!!

Been taking EL since Monday since Sofiya was down with high-fever since Monday. Well, she was already warm on Sunday and i thought it's becoz Kie was letting her taste Durian Grade D24. Anyway, she blushed in the morning alright and a phone call to the office and i was free. Free, but it cost me 3 days of leaves. Anything for the children i guess. She was high to 39.5 on Monday noon and i sure glad i didn't panicked. There was a trip to SJMC last year and the Doc went like dun worry hun , all you have to do is sponge em with tepid water or mandikan je. so, i did and push in the "ubat bontot". Really, i don't know what the official medical name for it tho. Tuesday, she had rashes. Gosh, flashback!!! I read it in some blog about her kid going thru the same thing and i was pretty sure it was measles. So, the the clinic we went and antibiotics was prescribed. Wait till Wednesday noon and see what happens. If her temp is still high OR the rashes multiplies, the hospital we go. After dinner, she's as cold as the Stonehenge!! Voila, and i have a worry less Wednesday. 1st half spent on folding clothes and gosh, there're zillions of em clothes. 2nd half? GOSH IM STUCK WITH WEEDS!!!

Nope, im not smokin weeds and never had any in my entire life. Nope, i didn't have borrriiing frens but i turned em invitations. Altho, i did took i smoke and i nearly puke. Bad, bad weeds. anyway, m talking about WEEDS, the all hot american tv show. Somebody passed me the DVDs 1, 2 and 3rd seasons and im on the 3rd seasons already. OMG, what a wonderful story. They have Assalamualaikum greeting by a Muslim black-man
called Joseph and a Jewish girl swearing on Hamas bombing becoz it killed her Commanding Officer BF. Now, Nancy or should i call her, Lacy, is a tough Mummy and a weeping widow (tho she won't admit it). It's now running Season 4 and i can't wait to get my hands on the "DVD". or was it season 6? oh well, try the webby and u can listen to all the cool songs featured in the show. Dun miss the Little boxes OST. Astounding! Starting Season 2, they had different singers and genres of Little Boxes and wayyy, totally cool.
Anyway. doesn't Andy Botwin aka Justin Kirk looks like our very own Aznil Hj Nawawi? Ecept the one in Weeds is a pu**y and has highly-charged sex-drive. <> it wont reach our shores soon, Y? the title itself gave it away..._ Anyway, i've read in June 08 Malaysian Women's weekly (in the loo, i guess- hey, i read in the loo and i havent read the Feb issue yet...ahaks)..sumthing about carbohydrate and related stuffs. Its said that if you gain 3 kilos overnight, it's either: you're pumpin the fat like nobody's business OR your're goin to die. Naaahhhh..it's probably just water retention or the food we eat thats in our gut (i hate to think how it looks like in there) contributes to the weight gain. Sooooooo, technically speaking, we aint gonna git fat overnight unless voodoo is involved. FAT needs time be broken down. One night, aint enough time to slip into our muscles baby. So, the point is, if you must have supper or midnight snacks urges, keep it lean and low on the F.A.T and C.A.L.O.R.I.E. You know what im syin'? Otherwise, these will transforms into some kind of sugar (of course, the scientific name like saccarin, glucose family) and tt means energy. If you aint burnin it like exercising, hell yeah you are gettin fat. Like me, of course.

Watashi No nihongo wa wakarimasu-ka?

July, 14th, 2008
tutut...tutut...
Leena: hello, zatul. maran kol me and said there's a surprise for sivanes. told him im on leave and told him oso dat ur in the office. so, u can arrange la.

Maran: ooo..leena told u oredi aaa?
me: yep. Maran: ok, thanks aaa..
Then, that afternoon, we got to eat Secret Recipe's Blueberry Cheese Cake and Sivanes got to stare at her birthday flower bouquet.

i

found this kit at Cash Converter, near SS2 PJ. I could pretend to be a
Paleontologist (am i even spelling it right?) anyway, it's a Triceratops bones (let's pretend, ok?) and it got all the chisel, hammer and brush inside. Let's just hope i won't break it into 3 parts!!!

Finally, after all the planning "virtually of-course" we did manage to meet. From La Bodega, we decided to eat at Fatty Crab. It's a No Pork joint but do not expect HALAL statement la. I've heard about i but it last Saturday was my 1st time. Crab, fried nasik, bread, fish, and fried chicken wings. RM33.00/head/adult. Kids, no need to pay. Anyway, it's nice seeing those people again. I couldn't help but wonder, if the whole batch was there, the owner must have been admitted into some health institution already..Well, We all still look the same except for some minor adjustments including from model-like figure to chubby!!

Atan is now L size, same as me an she's an Ah-Long (she claims laaa). Fina looks the same and works in IBM. Remy looks fairer and now a lecturer in Saudi. Zareen picked up some baby fats here and there but still single , i believe. Reeza came all the way from JB and looks...exactly the same from the last time i saw her which was 10 years ago except now married to another UPM-dweller and got 3 kids now. The youngest is only 3 months old and she looks fab!!! ummphhh...mine is 1.5 years and my preggy fat still won't go away. Bugger.

There's sumthing different about Azzee which i still can't figure it out. Works in MAS training centre and she's got 2 or 3 kids. Zatul (Iffah), well, she looks the same. She has always been the fairest amongst us but her bum still besar like before...haha. 3-4 kids now but still looks like an anak dara. She's attached to PERMATA (Petronas Training Centre). The sexy-tube-wearing is Sumy. She wasn't a Tesler but a friend to the bunch. She was with ker kids there and man, she's a cool mum. but garang. way to go mummy!!

Behind, from left: Fina, me, Zatul, Sumy
Front, from left: Azzee, Remy, Atan, Zareen, Reeza.

Disney live in Malaysia

Nov 8, Deepavali 2007.

Pegi open house hafizee. parking visitor was full and we had 2 walk. erk...jauh gak la :P..but, i didn't take any pics of the super-fabolous food!!! arghhh.. the main dish was homemade nasi kerabu. katering x main la. sedapnya.x pernah lagi aku mkn sesedap itteww. food theme: kelantan food. ada kuih buah tanjung [ aku panggil "taik itik"] rupanya Buah Tanjung made form egg yolk while kuih taik itik made from egg-whites. apart from that, there are a few kelantanese + non-kelantanese food incld kuih gomok. mcm kuih tepung gomak tapi hak nih lembut sket.

then, off we go th Taman Lestari Putra again for Kak Masz's open hse plak. ada mee rebus tapi aku mkn nasi dagang sket jek.

petang tuh, off we go to Bukit Jalil for "Disney Live in Malaysia show".nak masuk pun kena handbag kena search kalah security kat airport. merchandise kat situ pun paling murah RM25.00 (a coloring book+ magic wand). aku siap bagi soklan cepumas kat organiser [dlm slang exxagerated english] " why can't we take any picture?" (it's the rule) " i know but why?" and as expected, nobody could answer my Q. i went off with a smirk on my face.even if i have taken some picas, i wouldn't put em here....the show wasn't "a bring it on " for my son. Cinderella, snow white, Aladdin, are not his forte. he was amazed at the magic show however. i couldn't wait until the show ended. it was nice, great, amazing show but hey, not my cup of tea.
sambung. Then the seating arrangement. i thot the VIP (RM228.00) & Class A (RM158.00) seat wud differs a lot. sekali tgk seat VIP mcm kerusi banquet kat hotel. pastuh jarak seat VIP & Class A..alahai..no barricade/divider, and when the show started, we actually could move to VIP seats from Class A Seats. so, what's the difference? except we didn't coz Class A Seat is waaaaaaaaaaaaaaayyy much more comfortable (padded stadium seats) than VIP seats. Isn't it a rip off???? yeah, maybe initially we will be ushered into our designated seats (yeah..VIP & Class A seats were numbered), but i still think it's a big RIP-OFF!! Class B Seats (RM58.00) is behind Class A seats except they were free-seated and there was a fence between Class A & B. But still, i think, Class B seats are enough to enjoy the show...it's not that far from the stage provided must be there early to catch good seats.
anyway, overall, the show is superb (i like the magical show and mickey+minnie combo is so cute. Maybe we adults would still be amazed (for those who haven't been to Disney world) to meet all the Disney's characters. Plus, it's a good winding down activity, one in a while.

did i take pictures? hahahhahh..nope..i swear :P , the abv pic is from THe Star.
